About Institutional Advancement

The Office of Institutional Advancement delivers a variety of programs and services to increase understanding of, and financial support for, Virginia State University among its many publics.

The Institutional Advancement team also encompasses management of University events and oversight of the VSU website. As well, the Vice President for Institutional Advancement is a member of the President's Cabinet.

The Development Department obtains private financial support to advance the teaching, research, and service goals of the University. While Virginia State University (VSU) is a state-assisted institution, only about one third of our operating budget comes from the Commonwealth of Virginia. Shrinking public sector support, coupled with increasing costs, necessitates expanded private funding for VSU.

We interact with alumni, corporations, foundations, local government, small businesses, civic organizations, and other friends to positively promote and raise money for VSU. We seek financial support for scholarships, endowment, and programs that enrich our students' lives and the University at large. We also help donors achieve their personal giving goals and provide sound stewardship of all contributions.

The Development Department is the clearinghouse for all fundraising activities done in the name of the University by any support organization located on or off campus. We advise and assist internal and external organizations in planning and executing fundraisers.
