Education Support Specialist II
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates, organizes, publicizes and administers co-curricular activities, including social, cultural, recreational, progressive and student leadership programs targeted to the Virginia State University student population. Produces annual reports, maintains the program budget, markets all events and activities; chaperones late night and weekend student activities. Collaborates with university partners for the facilitation of program development; plans and executes major department sponsored programs for the campus community; Advises the student led programming board (Trojan Activities Board) to ensure they plan and implement goal oriented programming for the campus community. Actively serve as the Homecoming Chairperson to a committee of forty while providing oversight to 15 programs in a week to include a community parade, concert, comedy show and more; serve on various campus and community committees; develop and measure programmatic learning outcomes; track program attendance for reporting purposes, assist in the development of student retreats and leadership development programs, and provide supervision to work-study students and interns.
Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur with event planning and leading teams. Able to plan and implement small and large scale programs for the development of the college student. Demonstrated ability of verbalize the dynamics of student development and how programming may impacts one’s development. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, develops reports and procedures, and communicates effectively. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated experience with marketing events, use of social media, graphic design is a plus. Coordinate large scale events with an understanding of contracts and logistical planning. Demonstrates the ability to work independently with moderate to little supervision. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in social sciences or humanities and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing post-secondary student development programs, including but not limited to students; or equivalent education/training or experience.
