Education Administrator II
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide small ruminants (goats and sheep) and livestock production and management expertise. Determine program needs by monitoring trends and issues involving Extension leadership councils and other leadership committees. Develop and deliver objective and research-based educational programs to meet the needs of target audiences, specify program goals and objectives, and identify resources. Inform clientele of program activities. Use appropriate technologies to plan and deliver programs through workshops, seminars, conferences, one-on-one visits farm demonstrations, field trips, and tours. Maintain knowledge of current research information. Develop and implement evaluation plans. Recruit volunteers. Report results of clientele, public, and administration. This position requires frequent night and weekend work, as well as travel.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Considerable knowledge of animal nutrition, health, animal care, and reproduction. Demonstrated ability to recruit, select, train, and manage volunteers. Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs, lead groups, and to evaluate educational information programs. Ability to work effectively with low income, limited resource, and minority audiences. Ability to write specialized grant proposals. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Valid Virginia Driver’s license. Demonstrated ability to communicate effective both orally and in writing. Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree. Experience in commercial agriculture or practical experience in agriculture at an experiement station.
