Information Technology Specialist II (Agency Only)
The Network Services Engineer will support of the University’s data and network environment to include provisioning, management, administration and troubleshooting of the data network and infrastructure. This position will report directly to the Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) of IT Operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Network Services Engineer will provide technical and infrastructure support in cable, cooper, fiber, port level installations, maintenances, troubleshooting and testing, and configuration of network devices such as routers, switches, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) devices, Voice over the Internet (VoIP), security cameras, and network printers. Maintain cabling and fiber test records and results. The selected candidate will maintain inventory of tools and materials and develop technical documentation the underground cabling, fiber, and University network infrastructure. The individual will perform, direct, and coordinate network and cable installations with contractors to ensure network connectivity, performance, and best practices, standards, and timelines are achieved. The individual will participate or provide consultation to the CIO, committees, user groups or special IT seminars that support the University’s information technology operations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience. Experienced in installing, maintaining, and configuring telecommunications such as fiber optic cable, coax cable, cooper cable, voice and data security systems, fire alarms, and intercom systems. Experience in installing, maintaining, configuring, and troubleshooting Windows servers and other server platforms, Cisco devices (routers, switches, firewalls, voice devices, etc.) and other LAN/WAN devices, video network systems, voice systems, and messaging systems. Must possess strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to quickly analyze data and problem solve. Preferred qualification: BICISI certification and/or training.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: ITIL Foundation Certification and/or BICISI certification and/or training. Experience in implementing and supporting a network infrastructure in a higher education environment.
