DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a Communications/Data Specialist and Advisor to provide all parents and VSU community members with updated news and information and provide academic and personal advising to freshmen, sophomore, and Transfer students. Position will provide media/communication services to promote the University College; responsible publishing University College e-newsletter and Parent e-letter, disseminates student communications via social media and electronic communications; edits all University College written publications and presentations; will assist Data Manager with the analysis, management, & extraction of data from Banner that will be utilized for statistical reports addressing graduation and retention rates at University; prepares and disseminates statistical reports for Executive Director and Provost each semester; advise and register freshmen, sophomore and transfer students for classes toward graduation requirements; create and maintain student academic growth plans based on semester academic performance; provide counseling about self-awareness, self-esteem, and personal growth; work with at-risk students to refer them to effective enhancement programs and confer with parents as needed; and maintains student files.
Successful candidate must have considerable demonstrated experience working with data and statistical methods; demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and various database software applications; demonstrated experience in public speaking and communications utilizing social media and mass media; experience editing documents and providing composition services; knowledgeable of publishing print and electronic newsletters; experience with Excel Data Analysis Package and SPSS 18 is essential, experience advising college students in an educational setting; knowledge of college registration and/or class scheduling processes; demonstrated ability to create student academic growth plans geared toward academic improvement; ability to work with at-risk students; manage manual and electronic filing systems; working knowledge of Banner; strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and other activities simultaneously; some knowledge of university policies and procedures; and strong customer service skills are a plus.
