Information Technology Specialist II
The Lead Technology Support Specialist will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and direct computing support of the desktop computers, workstations, and peripherals at Virginia State University (VSU).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the daily performance of the University’s computer systems. Provide expert advice and highly complex troubleshooting to ensure problem resolution. Design, recommend, and implement strategies for meeting user’s needs. Perform in a lead capacity, and provide work direction and guidance to support staff; provide assistance and expertise to other team members ensuring timely completion of projects; and oversee and coordinate personnel engaged in problem-solving, monitoring, and installation of equipment and software. Upon completion of projects, review to ensure projects meet defined objectives, University goals, and programs are compatible with existing programs already in use. Evaluates and tests vendor-supplied software packages for microcomputers to determine compatibility with existing system, ease of use, and if software meets user needs. Reviews, monitors, and upgrades existing personal computer systems; manages networked resources. Makes recommendations for improvements in computer systems. Assist user in resolving computer-related problems, such as inoperative hardware or software. Provides basic assistance on the use of commonly used VSU applications. May assign and coordinate work projects, such as converting to new hardware and software. May prepare training manuals, and train computer users on how to properly use assigned computer hardware and software.
Considerable experience managing and troubleshooting networked computing resources and providing access. Demonstrated skill in the installation, repair, and troubleshooting of microcomputers with a range of operating systems (Windows 2000 series, XP, and McIntosh). Considerable knowledge of microcomputer hardware. Considerable experience with the installation and administration of Microsoft software applications. Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to analyze data and problem solve. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Experience installing, repairing and troubleshooting Windows Vista. Experience providing computer support in a higher education environment.
