Information Technology Specialist I
These positions will provide direct computing support to Virginia State University’s (VSU) user community, and is responsible for installation and maintenance of desktop computers, workstations, and peripherals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Set up equipment for employee use ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, and appropriate software. Determine user specifications for hardware and software, and assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance. Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, and peripheral equipment using design or installation specifications. Maintain daily tracking of problems, actions taken, and installation activities. Answer user inquires regarding computer software and hardware operation to resolve problems. Read technical manuals, confer with users, and conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems. Research problems that cannot be resolved immediately, and determine resolution. Prepare questions and solutions to commonly encountered issues for inclusion in the Help Desk FAQs page.
Demonstrated experience working with circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including desktop applications and programming. Demonstrated skill in the installation, repair and troubleshooting of microcomputers with Windows 2000 series and XP and VISTA. Ability to analyze data and problem solve. Demonstrated ability to effectively document troubleshooting resolutions for use by staff. High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Working knowledge of multiple versions of Windows. A+, MCSE, or MCP Certification. Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. Experience providing computer support in a higher education environment.
