Director of Marketing and Communication School of Agriculture

The Virginia State University School of Agriculture is seeking an individual with outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills to serve as our Director for Marketing and Communication. Reporting directly to the Dean, this position is primarily responsible for the assessment, development and management of a dynamic, school-wide media, information technology and communication services system designed to effectively and efficiently market and support the programmatic needs of the school.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position promotes the School of Agriculture’s image through public relations activities, ensuring coverage and marketing materials are consistent with the image the School of Agriculture would like to project. Identifies media strategies best suited to achieve the public relations program’s objectives. Develops and maintains strategic partnerships/collaborations, internally and externally, to further the development and outreach of school efforts. Serves as a liaison with appropriate media personnel and responds to all media inquiries. Assesses and develops a unified strategy for outreach communications and marketing for the School of Agriculture and its component units. Produces and assists in planning School of Agriculture publications to include content and design of the School’s internet site, brochures, electronic newsletter, posters, handouts, etc. Supervises all School of Agriculture media, information technology and communication services staff. Oversees the delivery of IT services for the School of Agriculture. Develops systematic mechanisms to collect and present data and information on the School and its component programs. Represents the School and Dean on appropriate internal and external committees as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Possess an advance degree in business administration, communication technology, adult education, marketing or closely related discipline or combination of equivalent education and experience. Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills. Ability to maintain a positive approach under pressure. Possess a proven record of outstanding organizational development and management skills. Ability to relate to a diverse range of clientele. Possess strong creative leadership, oral and written skills. Possess broad background knowledge in a variety of communication technology venues. Experience in supervising highly trained personnel. Proficient with desktop and publishing software programs.
