Director of Alumni Relations

Office of Institutional Advancement

This position provides leadership and management for VSU Office of Alumni Relations, Annual Fund, and Special Events.   The Office of Alumni Relations delivers a variety of programs and services to increase understanding of, and financial support for, Virginia State University. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Successful candidate will develop, manage, and execute events & programs which increase alumni engagement and participation; will provide suitable volunteer opportunities; create and oversee the production of solicitation materials; manage the Annual Fund program to raise unrestricted funds for operations, scholarships, and technology; cultivate prospects via phone, mail and personal visits; oversee the planning and execution of University-wide events to include by not limited to the President’s Golf Tournament, Opening Convocation, Homecoming Luncheon, Founder’s Day, and Winter & Spring Commencement Ceremonies; create and develop a successful Annual Fund donor stewardship program; create a first-time donor & consecutive year donor recognition plan; create and develop a Student & Young Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving Program; meet with student groups to promote and educate about alumni support and participation of giving events; provide supervision and evaluation of Assistant Director, Alumni Relations Assistant and Special Events Coordinator; and attend and represent University at alumni events. 
  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field and/or equivalent combination of training and work experience is required. A Master’s degree is preferred.  Must have experience working and leading a team in a telemarketing call center environment.  Considerable knowledge of fundraising principles is required.  Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential; strong verbal and written communication skills are required; must be willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; and must be willing to travel.  Candidates must have strong organizational, telephone, interpersonal communication skills.  Successful candidate must have demonstrated record of meeting deadlines; demonstrated experience with using the Internet and Microsoft Office Suite; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and other activities simultaneously in high volume office; and demonstrated experience preparing reports and presentations is required.  Attention to detail, an aptitude for logical thinking, and strong time management skills are essential.  Knowledge of database systems; Raiser’s Edge and Banner is preferred.
