ASSISTANT/ ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Agricultural Research Station 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will be an integral member of the animal science multi-disciplinary team conducting pasture research investigations utilizing cool-season and warm season perennial grasses, forbs, hays, and crop residue for meat-goat production.  Research areas include development of low-input forage systems for year-round grazing, production, and use of alternative forage and browse species for goats, pre and post harvest forage quality and grazing studies with small ruminants.  The incumbent will be expected to work closely with other scientists in small ruminants and plant science programs to enhance the marketability and profitability of meat-goat production.  The incumbent will prepare scientific articles for publications and present research results at professional society conferences and other appropriate meetings.  The successful candidate will also disseminate research findings through scientific journals and other peer-reviewed publications; contribute to development and implementation of appropriate undergraduate and graduate programs at Virginia State University; and participate in department, school, and University service and outreach.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

Ph.D degree in Animal Science or related field with experience working with small ruminants.  Other requirements include computer literacy, excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
