Direct Service Associate III
The objective of this position is to support the University’s compliance with and fulfillment of SACS principles of Accreditation, VSU Mission, VSU Master/Strategic Plan, and the council for the Advancement of Standards in higher Education professional Standards. The purpose of this position is to provide support to the Co-curricular Program Coordinator, through planning, coordinating and implementing programs, activities and events that reinforce classroom instruction and complement academic learning.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Will plan, coordinate and implement programs, activities and/or events per semester; Establish and maintain a liaison/collaborative role with academic departments/units; Plan and coordinate student and social development programs, activities and events; Plan and coordinate annually cultural awareness and enrichment activities and events that foster individual self-esteem, historical/cultural identities and celebrates cultural diversity; Provide assistance and attend all meetings of the Trojan Union Board for the planning and implementation of the committee’s programs; Attend meetings with various academic departments, student affair departments and students; Market all Department of Student Activities events to the VSU community on a weekly basis and maintain the Department newsletter. Wage employees are limited to working 1,500 hours per year, beginning with date of employment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated ability to manage and complete tasks with little or no supervision; possess excellent planning and organizations skills; Demonstrated knowledge and skills in computer use/applications; Working knowledge of and experience working in higher education student development, student services programs and functions; Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent human relations skills and marketing skills; Demonstrated ability to develop activities and events with the focus of developing student learning outcomes. Bachelor’s degree in education, social or behavioral science field; or suitable combination of education, training and experience is required.
