Gospel Chorale embarks on European tour

The internationally-acclaimed Virginia State University Gospel Chorale has been invited to perform in a nearly month-long European tour beginning in December with Propaganda Musicale of Rome, Italy. Highlighting the tour will be a performance for the Pope’s Vatican Christmas Concert, New Year’s Eve concert in Rome’s Piazza del Popolo, and a number of televised music specials.
The tour will run December 4 – January 2, 2014, and includes performances in north and south Italy (Rome to Sicily); Geneva, Switzerland; Bucharest, Romania; and Budapest, Hungary. Gospel recording artist Hezekiah Walker will be performing and traveling with the Gospel Chorale for half of the tour.
Birthed in 1993, the Pope’s Christmas Concert has become the “not to miss event” for Italian TV audiences. Over the years, prestigious locations such as the Paolo VI hall in the Vatican, the Grimaldi Forum in Monte Carlo, the Philharmonic Theatre in Verona, the Massimo Bellini Theatre in Catania, and the Mediterranean Conference Center in Malta have hosted the Italian and international musicians of various musical genres ranging from lyrical to rock, pop to gospel, and soul to jazz.
At this year’s “Christmas Concert,” The VSU Gospel Chorale will accompany Elhaida Dani, the Albanian rising star of winner of “The Voice of Italy,” for a musical selection.
The past year-and-a-half has been extremely good to the Chorale. In September 2012, they won the People’s Choice Award as part of the Washington, DC regional competition of How Sweet the Sound - a Verizon experience. Last January, they participated in the DC Citywide Interfaith Food Drive, one of the official kick-off events for President Obama’s National Day of Service during his inauguration weekend. Most recently, the Chorale appeared as a quarterfinalist in this season of NBC’s “America's Got Talent.”
