Scott Receives Coach of the Year Award

Head Football Coach Latrell Scott has been named HBCU Mid Major Division National Coach of the Year by Dr. J. Kenyatta Cavil’s HBCU Football Weekly Report. This marks the third “Coach of the Year” award for Scott. He previously was honored as the 2013 Virginia Sports Information Directors College Division Coach of the Year and the Richmond Touchdown Club’s Willard Bailey Coach of the Year for NCAA Divisions II and III.

Dr. Cavil’s HBCU Football Weekly Report introduced its newly redesigned HBCU Football awards in 2012, presented at the end of the each football season. Dr. Cavil published weekly polls throughout the HBCU football season. Dr. Cavil serves as an entrepreneur, HBCU sports and sport business analyst and lecturer at Texas Southern University in Houston.  He also serves as an assistant professor and acting coordinator of the Sport Studies and Leadership Program at TSU.

In Scott’s first year as VSU coach, the Trojans won the CIAA Northern Division with a 7-0 conference, and 9-1 overall, record.
