VSU Distinguished Professor…Dr. Gerald Burton

Dr. Gerald BurtonDr. Gerald Burton, professor in the Department of Mathematics and Economics, was bestowed the designation of VSU Distinguished Professor. “Distinguished Professor” is a title given to top tenured professors who are highly regarded and seen as a leader in their field of study. The honorary rank of distinguished professor is awarded at the beginning of the year prior to retirement to selected outstanding faculty who will qualify for the status of professor emeritus.

Dr. Burton has been a valued member of the VSU faculty for 42 years.  Among his many accomplishments, he has served as chair of the Faculty Senate, president of the American Association of University Professors, VSU Chief Marshall for nearly 25 years, and currently serves as chairman of the Board for the Communities in Schools of Petersburg.
