About Us

The Department of Student Activities at VSU, located at Foster Hall, is committed to bringing all members of the University community together to help students have a well-rounded University experience. It oversees the 75-plus student organizations at VSU and runs a thriving intramural sports and recreation program.

The Campus Community Outreach, The Royal Court, Student Government Association, Peer Mediation, and the Trojan Yearbook are just a few of the activities and programs the department directs.

One of its most important responsibilities is running The Foster Hall Student Union, commonly known as the Student Union. This is a central place for students to gather to socialize, watch TV, unwind after class, or to grab a bite in The Trojan Corner dining area. Many student organizations meet and many co-curricular activities are also held here.

While students are at the core of the Student Union, it is a shared possession and can be a gathering place for faculty, staff, alumni and guests as well. It reflects the spirit and personality of the Trojan tradition at VSU.

Mrs. Menjiwe Martin is director of the Department of Student Activities, which is located at Foster Hall. Her staff includes Felecia Reid, her administrative assistant; Marion Heiskill, Student Union receptionist; DeAndrea Neal, associate director of Student Activities/Greek Life/building manager; Sandra Williams, calendar coordinator; Billy Taylor, community outreach coordinator; Lanae Dowe, co-curricular program coordinator; Jacquelyn Griffin-Hammonds, administrative assistant for Judicial Affairs and Peer Mediation; Samuel Rivers, Recreation and Intramural Sports/building manager; Andre Ruffin, storekeeper; Rudi Jackson, community outreach coordinator; Brenda Smith, program support technician; and Michael Rainey, program support technician and coordinator for the Gospel Chorale.
