Education Support Specialist II
The ideal candidate will proactively support the Career Services office to enhance and expand internship, experiential learning and employment opportunities for Virginia State University students and alumni. The Assistant Director will serve as the lead for employer development, manage the Trojans4Hire database and assist students with the career development process.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate employer recruitment activities and promote VSU to employers and constituents for internship and employment opportunities. Manage and maintain the Career Services Management software database, Trojans4Hire. Coach and advise VSU undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni regarding the career planning process and career related topics. The assistant director is responsible for the following: Work with the director to provide strategic and innovative leadership with implementing employer development activities for the Career Services Office and the University. Research, cultivate and maintain relationships with industry partners for internship and employment opportunities. Coordinate on campus employer recruitment activities such as information sessions, mock interviews, on campus interviews, information tables and Career Expos. Develop and maintain Career Services webpage content. Coordinates aspects of publication and marketing materials for Career Services. Utilize career assessment tools as appropriate; administer and discuss results with students. Collaborate with employers, student organizations, alumni, faculty, and staff in preparing and implementing career related workshops; developing internships, employment and experiential learning opportunities. Establish and maintain a liaison/collaborative role with academic departments/units. Supervise staff, work study/graduate students and complete administrative tasks as necessary.
A Master’s Degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Student Personnel, Business or related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Working knowledge of the career services field, career services resources, tools, information, and programs. Demonstrated ability to market the University and recruit employers for internship, employment and experiential learning activities; coach and advise students on the career development process and career related activities; create, present and facilitate career related workshops and programs; write reports, procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations; and, establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and navigating social media sites.
Experience using Symplicity or other career services software is preferred. Experience in higher education is a plus.
