DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSORThe Virginia State University Department of Technology Services is accepting applications for a Network Services Manager. This position will be responsible for directing a team of network engineering professionals to ensure delivery of high quality, cost efficient network services to the VSU community. The incumbent in this position will establish goals for the department that lead to not only the department’s success, but also the overall success of the university. The successful candidate will interact with other internal and external customers to set appropriate goals and establish priorities for the Network Services staff, plan and organize project deliverables, serve as a subject matter expert in the areas of data networking, cyber security, and unified communications. The positon will be responsible for providing overall supervision of the network services staff, ensuring the IT needs of VSU faculty, staff, and students are met, recruit, interview, train, supervise, and evaluate staff. Prepare financial analyses for any network services related procurements, design and implement short and long-term strategic plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements. Prepare RFPs, bid proposals, contracts, scope of work reports, and other documentation for projects and associated efforts. The incumbent will be responsible for completing and delivering regular audits and assessments and providing reports as are required by regulatory agencies and management, partner with project mangers on solution analysis, business requirements, cost benefit analysis, risk assessments, and business impact analysis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related discipline or equivalent and some related work experience. Demonstrated knowledge of network topologies, routers, switches, firewalls, and network based hardware and software, including applications and scripting. Experience in a management, supervisor, or leadership role. Experience managing IT budgets. Must demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and be adept at tactfully managing a wide array of customers and their needs. Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities required. Must have certification and experience in ITIL. Ability to provide a consistently high level of customer service and reduce technical information to simple language. Ability to clearly document issues so that they may be easily interpreted by other staff. Skilled in the installation, repair and troubleshooting of network equipment; knowledge of established security best practices is required; Juniper and AeroHive certification is a plus. Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (oral and written). Experience in a higher educational environment preferred.
